CHAIRMAN RETIRES FROM PLAYING

Club Chairman Phil 'The Power' Horner used his annual season ending presentation night speech to formally announce the end of his cricket playing days last night.  Phil has struggled with persistent knee injuries for some time and has decided the Monday morning agony is not worth it any longer!

The 1996 Batsman Of The Year, Phil has scored 1068 runs and made over 125 appearances for the club in a Lilley career spanning 13 years.

Confirming his retirement - although not ruling out making occasional emergency appearances - Phil declared his intention to continue as Chairman, should the club members want him! 16-11-08

AWARDS SHARED AT ANNUAL PRESENTATION

Majid Shah was named Player Of The Year, Tim Perry the Player's Player Of The Year and Gareth Tompkins and James Ashby the Batting and Bowling Award respectively last night at the Lilley Cricket Club Annual Presentation Night.  Perry also took the fielder of the year trophy, whilst Brad Tompkins was awarded 'Most Improved Player' for his work behind the stumps and at the top of the order this season.

Clubman Of The Year and Chairman's Award were given to Club Secretary Dave Carman in recognition of all his hard work behind the scenes at the club, whilst Tommy Mills' catch at Flamstead was named Champagne Moment for 2008.

In less honourable trophy news, Craig Paddington scooped the gong for most golden ducks whilst Karl Berry took home the 'most ducks' trophy.  Worst Over went to James Ashby for his 'effort' against Offley and most dropped catched went to Majid Shah, who fortunately held on to the trophy.

A bumper crowd at the Lilley Arms turned out for the event.  Photos to follow.  16-11-08

LILLEY EDGE CLOSER TO PROMOTION

Lilley moved one step closer to promotion this weekend, largely thanks to the awful British summer!  Datchworth's scheduled game against Bramfield was also washed out, along with most of the cricket fixture list in the North Herts League.  It means Datchworth have now completed their fixtures for 2008 and cannot catch Lilley, who are 2 points clear in second place.  Letchworth are crowned champions of Division 2, with Lilley and Great Gaddesden in a straight battle for the second promotion place.  Great Gaddesden play their final fixture this weekend whilst Lilley host Rosslyn a week later.

The two sides have not met this season - because of rain!

RAIN RUINS ANOTHER WEEKEND

Lilley's weekend fixture against Codicote fell victim to the weather again, with the weeks monsoon like conditions leaving the ground at Lilley in no fit state for cricket.  Lilley have one final league fixture, versus Rosslyn, on Sunday 21st July.  08-09-08

DATCHWORTH GAME WASHED OUT AFTER 58.2 OVERS

Despite the very best of British summer weather, Lilley and Datchworth almost got a full game in today in the North Herts League Division 2.  The game was just ten balls away from the 20 over mark in the second innings when torrential rain finally ruined any hopes of the game being finished.  Earlier, Gareth Tompkins hit 64 in Lilley's below par 128 all out in 40 overs.  To read the match report, click here. 31-08-08
