BUILDING WORK BEGINS - AS DOES THE SEASON!
Lilley's
new pavilion building finally moved from the drawing board to the cricket ground
last week as preferred building contractors JF Woodham Builders moved on site to
begin the work on the footings for the new building (pictured left).
Photographs will appear here shortly of the weekly progression on site. The main structure of the building is being made off site whilst the groundwork is done, with the building due to be completed by mid-July.
Meanwhile at the 'nuts and bolts' end, a team of workers grafted at the ground this Sunday as preparation continued for the 2010 season. Cutting, scarifying and rolling were the order of the day, whilst boundaries and trees surrounding the pavilion were also trimmed back after a year of growth.
Elsewhere, the season is less than a week away as Lilley prepare to open the campaign against bitter on field rivals and off field friends Offley & Stopsley Cricket Club in the Mansfield/Towndrow Trophy. The cup is so named after the two players which each club felt were the iconic players from the opposing side during the 1990s (John Mansfield, formerly of Lilley and Stopsley hall of famer Keith Towndrow).
The home side will be without crowd favourite Matt 'Jaffa Cake' Freeman and Wayne Cutts is also a reported injury doubt for the latest addition to the Bedfordshire Sunday league ranks. Lilley's line up is the matter of some considerable uncertainty itself at present, but one name inked on the teamsheet is Dan Mclaughlin, who almost hit a memorable century in Lilley's last outing of 2009. We cannot disclose too much more, as Offley do their homework...suffice to say a full match report will appear right here after Sunday's game and doubtless a view from the other camp will be available on Offley's own excellent website, www.oscricket.com - if you're in the Luton/Hitchin area on Sunday (18th April), why not come down and salute some bang average village cricketers, with the odd exception, and enjoy a libation afterwards. All are welcome 13-04-10

PAVILION GETS GREEN LIGHT AFTER 12 YEARS OF GRAFT
Lilley Cricket Club have finally received the news that they have been waiting for for so long - the new club pavilion building can finally go ahead!
Final clearance from the building and planning authorities has been received, which in turn means the club will now begin to receive the grant from North Herts District Council which was applied for and won under the PACIF funding scheme. The funding, coupled with the tremendous fund raising effort so far within the club, mean that orders will imminently be placed with the chosen builder and pavilion building firm. Work will begin, subject to schedules, by the end of March.
More detail will appear here throughout the day. 16-03-10

FINAL BUILDING REGS APPROVAL THE LAST PLANNING HURDLE
The Annual General Meeting formally gave the green light to press ahead with the new pavilion this weekend as Lilley Cricket Clubs dream of a return home 'proper' took another step closer to becoming reality.

As this reaches a conclusion, the club will be in a position to start placing orders and proceeding. Keep checking back here for the latest developments in this exciting time for the club. 08-03-10
